The MMCA Museum Café opened in 2004. It is located on the ground floor of the building, and has a second, independent entrance, allowing it to operate outside Museum hours.
It is a pleasant place where visitors to the Museum, the TIF, or indeed anyone else can relax over a hot or cold drink. It can also accommodate small-scale activities.
Past and present meet harmoniously in the museum area surrounding the Café, thanks to the careful architectural integration and display of the Roman grave complex (2nd-3rd c. AD) discovered during excavation work for the construction of the Museum. Given the importance of this monument, the Architectural Council adopted the proposal of the responsible Ephorate of Antiquities (the 16th EPKA) for its preservation and display within the area of the Museum.
Other monuments of similar importance are preserved and displayed in other parts of the Museum as well, allowing the visitor to experience the co-existence and dialogue between works of contemporary art and relics of the history of the Greek people.
The Museum Café also organises, on behalf of the MMCA and with the approval of the competent Museum Committee, larger scale receptions in the Museum proper, for independent events or in conjunction with events using the Museum amphitheatre (lectures, meetings, music events e.t.c.).
The Museum has accommodated greek and international meetings, seminars, congresses and the like, with the possibility of simultaneous translation up to three languages, as well as musical evenings or matinees and lectures on art and literature. It has also hosted highly successful receptions for various organisations, with DJs or live music.
For information about holding receptions e.t.c. at the MMCA, please contact either of the Museum Directors responsible, Mr Petros Rasoglou and Mrs Ginny Kontaxaki, at 2310 240002 & 2310 281212.
